Third time’s the charm! Boracay became more commercialized right now than my first visit five years ago. It still has the pristine white sand and clear blue waters but with endless restaurants and night life along the long beach’ shore, it indefinitely became a lot better for locals and tourists. It has been and will always be one of the best vacation spots here in the Philippines. Warning: This is going to be a loooooooong entry!

 photo 1_zps267b8ae4.jpg

Here’s what brought to the beach! My closet’s full of beach clothes, cropped tops, t-shirts and cutoffs and i think i brought most of them! That’s why i always find it hard to come up with a formal or business attire when needed. Hahaha. I never pack light (even when we were in Palawan i figured out i packed for five extra days).

 photo 2_zps762b7d52.jpg

One thing that was different from my past two trips in Boracay, i traveled with my sister and a friend this year. Though i miss mum and dad a lot for five days, i became more independent and i had to be an ‘ate’ to my little sister. Though i am always an ate to her everyday, i have to look after her more than myself because i have to keep myself together as i tend to lose tickets and directions. Carlo went with us because he wants something to Instagram haha! And it was true, he was always on Instagram even in the bathroom (but he’s sometimes madamot with wifi huhu i am worried about my followers hahaha joke).

 photo 3_zps107e175d.jpg

We rode a bus from the airport going to the airplane. They confiscated our canned goods and a jar of peanut butter! :( Now we can’t push through with our one-nigt plan of eating canned goods at the hotel :( Hahaha. And guess what? Our flight got delayed for an hour. The  pilot said we have to wait for 10 mins for the clearance to be released from Kalibo International Airport but that ten minutes became a grueling one hour. Everyone was hungry and people were shouting “Free lunch! Free lunch!” lol. Upon arriving Kalibo, i was looking for the bus that will take us to Caticlan. It was a two-hour bus ride then we were greeted by some people at the boat terminal. We had the boat to ourselves (parang private boat lang haha) that took us to the beach for about twenty minutes. It was almost dusk and we were super stoked that we were almost there!

 photo 4_zps0f26904f.jpg

Touchdown Boracay! The first thing that we did after lodging at the hotel was eat! We were starving so we headed to a buffet place (because Carlo insisted on eating buffets everyday) then we saw our good friend Raph at the street and Ina said he practically looked like a local who offers the water or land activities to people hahaha! We invited him for some drinks & strawberry sisha at De Ja Vu bar. Ironically it won’t happen again hahaha we won’t be back because their mixes were too strong! The place was good though. And Carlo never stops singing the “Pusong Bato” to annoy us.

 photo 5_zps4c491bb6.jpg

Since it was a Friday, we partied at Epic club! It was my kind of vibe. It was so chill and we were just dancing the night away. I have never liked the wasakan kind of party or the get-drunk-til-you-cant-remember-what-you-did kind of thing. Carlo and Raph also told us that two tall guys were pushing them aside so that they could dance with us. But our friends were so protective, they pulled us right to the front row hahaha. It could have been my man! Just kidding.

 photo 6_zpsb0c0374d.jpg

Day two and we still don’t have anything planned for the rest of the days hahaha we were trying to be spontaneous without an itinerary lol. Oh well, here’s my attempt to post an ootd! :)

I love Ina’s high-waist swimsuit! The color combination looks so Litlle Mermaid don’t you think? :)

 photo 6a_zps14c4e586.jpg

Our cousin was supposed to be with us but he backed out a week before because he couldn’t leave his carshop business so Ina and I sold kuya Mykee’s ticket to Carlo and processed the name change charge. Carlo, it was the longest five days of my life! Hahaha! Please don’t show yourself to us for a month. Just kidding! Look at the last photo, we were trying to imitate a photo we have seen before. Unleashing the inner jeje within ang peg!

 photo 7_zps382f01c1.jpg

Bianca and Adrian met us outside our hotel and we ate at a BBQ House. We have tried that already before with mum and dad. It was scorching hot so Ina and grabbed Ice Monster for lunch. After lunch, we were getting ready for our parasailing but something went wrong on the cruise. The machine stopped working and we were stranded in the middle of the sea. The waves were really big and it was my first time to get seasick! So they just refunded our money. Para-fail-ing!

 photo 8_zps2d102b78.jpg

We walked all the way to D’Talipapa for dinner! Everything had D in Boracay – D’Mall, D’tonakayo & D’lata haha i kidd. We bought squid and shrimp at the market and had them cooked at a restaurant. The spicy squid and garlic buttered shrimp were so yum! Ina thought that we had to buy bigas because everything there was ‘paluto’ hahaha. Then Raph brought us to Jonas’ milkshakes and i forced Ina to order the Peanut Butter & Chocolate milkshake while i got Banana & something (i forgot sorry). It was so good!!! Well my sister didn’t liked hers because she wanted a fruit as well. Hihi. Well good is an understatement. I was craving for milkshakes everyday of our trip.

 photo 9_zps01cf2c36.jpg

We told ourselves we won’t take a bath so the stamp and tag from Friday’s party won’t come off and we’d get free passes haha but since we are good citizens of the world, we paid again for that party on Saturday night at Epic (by the way this photo is from their Facebook page). The music was good old tunes and i got my usual Sprite & Vodka (though i don’t drink softdrinks ever – i have tasted Coke only once in my entire life). Carlo got so kilig because i saw someone hitting on him for seven times (mas mahaba pa hair mo samin girl!). Ina also met a Russian girl at the bathroom and she told my sister she looks hipster with her outfit (hey ina those were my clothes! haha). Suddenly she started opening up to us and how she’s on a soul-searching because her boyfriend cheated on her. She went to Malasimbo in Palawan after that then Boracay. She was asking us for advice if she should forgive him or just forget it. As usual Ina and I had different answers haha can you guess what’s mine?

 photo 10_zpse1a2fd66.jpg

Day three and we are still alive! We asked Carlo to take our usual “sister-mala-candid photos” even though he was so annoyed hahaha! Haaay why you so sungit? jk i hope you won’t read this! I still won’t forget what left at the bathroom. It was so gross!!! I think i have seen death that time haha!

 photo 11_zpsa3db917f.jpg

I think this is my most favorite ootd at the beach! The bikini print is so hippie and boho while my lace coverup was said to be classy. I don’t like to put labels on who i am or what i look but lately i’ve been donning bohemian and hipster styles since then. I guess i won’t grow any younger, so better wear these cropped tops and high-waist shorts before i become fifty years old. Hahaha.

 photo 11a_zpsdab26cdb.jpg

Ina wanted to pair her neon lime green maxi skirt with a bandeau but we couldn’t find one before this trip so she just wore her basic black bikini. Notice her dip-dye bag? She made it! :) She even taught me how and i have my own peach and turquoise version. Kulang nalang idil-dye niya buong kwarto niya. Hahaha.

 photo 12_zps218c079e.jpg

We visited some of our friends who were watching Boracay Open while others were playing Ultimate Frisbee.

 photo 14_zps0e06b1d1.jpg

I was hoping to get a glimpse of Derek Ramsey but i think he was somewhere buying us food. Chos.

 photo 15_zps30ed8605.jpg

We tried the famous brick-oven pizza from Red Coconut :) Finally, a decent food on the island. Hihi

 photo 16_zps1d378d74.jpg

The sun isn’t getting any colder! We walked all the way to Station 1 to get another milkshake even though we were dying from the heat. We can’t get enough of it!

 photo 17_zps39812a6f.jpg

We just went food tripping the whole day! I also pre-ordered a box at Real Coffee because i was dying to try their famous Calamansi Muffins.

 photo 18_zps7522cbcd.jpg

While Carlo was sunset watching (and probably spotting hahaha), Ina and I played with the sun-rays again :)

 photo 19_zpsd76af3cd.jpg

What we have always wanted to do is to bask on the sun while i am reading a good book (but sadly i wasn’t able to do it) and while Ina was playing some songs with her Ukulele. It’s like we were in a pensive state, listening to the waves kissing the shore and the sun slowly drowning to infinity.

 photo 20_zps3d71f573.jpg

I super love the first photo! I have trained you well, Ina. Hihi

 photo 21_zpsa5aa3934.jpg

Thank you so much Ina for being so patient in taking hipster or ootd photos of me :)

 photo 22_zps78859f9d.jpg

The cloud looks like cotton candy :)

 photo 23_zpsdfcbf4c2.jpg

Carlo, Ina and I tried the restaurant in front of the Boracay Uptown mall (can you imagine they have a mall already?!). Then Winston called me to ask if he could join us for dinner since the rest of his friends went ahead. He also brought along Gie and Gracey. The food was okay and i could get used to the candlelit dinners by the beach. So relaxing! We made Carlo taste our favorite Gelato after dinner :)

 photo 24_zps1607023e.jpg

Our good friend, Noel, invited us to go to the party with him at Summerplace. We said yes because we have been at Epic for two straight nights and we wanted to try something different. I haven’t hung out with Noel also for the past two days. But plans have changed (the group became bigger than expected also) and they said we go straight to Club Paraw that was at Station 1 (photo from kuya Migs). I won’t go back to that place again ever – all for the wrong reasons. The place was awfully scary and tawdry. I won’t get into the deets too much about what else happened but i just wished we stayed at the hotel to get enough rest for our adventure the next day.

 photo 25_zps48227cb1.jpg

On a brighter note, our day four was the bomb! We sailed through the ocean so we could get to Ariel’s point. The secret island was so beautiful and we had it to ourselves for the whole afternoon!

 photo 26_zps7188665c.jpg

Carlo went right away and dove the 15 meters! It was so high and i am surprised he didn’t die hahaha. Can you see how suicidal the Asian was on the plank?

 photo 27_zps34615da0.jpg

It is our first time to try cliff diving (probabaly because our parents would freak out if they were with us). Ina and i have fear of open water so it was really scary for us to jump into the ocean not knowing if we would float longer. This is what happens when you watch too much films. But since it was saltwater, they said we won’t sink. And i was amazed, we didn’t drown!

 photo 28_zps76fbd7a4.jpg

I was saved by the bell (the lunch bell hahaha)!

 photo 29_zpsfdcc82c6.jpg

Cliff diving to death! It took me an hour standing on the edge of the plank hahaha just kidding! But seriously, when you’re at the end of the plank, you’ll have fear of heights too! My fear of open water disappeared but adrenaline rushed through my veins and i have decided to take a leap! Literally the biggest leap that i have taken in my life! This is legit yolo (even though i hate that word, i’ll use it just this time).

 photo 30_zps86ce5582.jpg

Open bar and buffet for all of us! I remember our foreigner friend who got stung by a jelly fish. He just poured the vodka to his open wound because he said there’s still alcohol in it. Makes sense. Hahaha!

 photo 31_zps4d88f624.jpg

I dove thrice and i can finally tick this off my bucketlist! :) But i still have bad bruises (that looks a lot like hemorrhage) and a broken bone from this 8 meter jump. This is what i get for being an adventurous soul :( but it feels so good! Well, on the inside. Hahaha. Because my right butt looked like i went on a hazing.

 photo 32_zps51b6c50b.jpeg

I told her i’ll kill her if she doesn’t jump but she’ll also die if she jumps. No choice hahaha so proud of my baby girl!

 photo 33_zps250883bc.jpg

Cruise + Cliff diving + Kayaking (Carlo was so competitive) + Snorkeling (Ina was stuck on the raft hahaha)+ vodka & beer party in this secret island! It was the best day of our trip :)

 photo 34_zps49e6a952.jpg

And it’s not yet the end of the day! I picked up my Calamansi muffins and Carlo dragged (yes he forced us haha) us to this super expensive buffet in front of Boracay Regency because their US steak was to die for!

 photo 35_zpsf708ea4d.jpg

The Sea Breeze Cafe charged us for around 750 tops but since it was our last night, were game! We ate like there’s no tomorrow. We stayed there for more than three hours, eating non-stop! Look at how much we have eaten! We were the last ones to finish until the closing time.

 photo 36_zps69271fb7.jpg

Our last day at Boracay came and we bought souvenirs for our family and friends back home. We also got dreamcatcher again for our room. Ina and i took the remaining hours to play with the sand and wander around.

 photo 37_zps183f8782.jpg

 photo 38_zps982fe44e.jpg

I am loving my flower crown!:) You can’t see it but i have already that time the huge bruise from our cliff diving.

 photo 40_zps8e59d990.jpg

 photo 41_zps70a57efb.jpg

To Ina, who will always be my travel and foodtrip buddy. It’s always fun to have adventures with you! From under the sea, on land and on air, we will conquer our fears together (and be fat together hahaha)! We will forever be matakaw and makukulit wherever we go! Can’t wait for our next adventure ♥

 photo 43_zps0d733047.jpg

To the coolest parents on the planet, thank you for letting us travel alone (well in this case, together haha) even though we weren’t with you guys (or in any adult supervision lol). You are both lenient and forever supportive in our decisions & dreams. We love how much you trust us and how you let us be independent & matured women. Our next stop is Roma! Hahaha.

 photo 42_zps5718b7bd.jpg

We were downright glum to leave this beautiful island but we have never been more euphoric to see mum and dad again! Home will always be my favorite place in the world ♥ ’til we meet again Boracay! :)

Beauty Solutions

Summer is here!! And i know all of you are flabbergasted (i can’t wait to use that word irl lol) to bask under the sun and have a really good time. But before drenching yourself in those waves and covering yourself with sand, here are some how-tos and tips to get you beach ready! I have been talking about beauty for my previous “What’s in my bag” post and here is my unpublished beauty article from my work last year. Forgive me for the plain art because my brushes in Gimp aren’t extensive enough. But I am stoked to share you more beauty posts in the future! :)

Problem: Sun-damaged Strands

Have you swum in the beach or spent most of the time roasting under the sun? Did you get your hair colored, straightened, curled or chemically treated? If you have answered yes then most likely your hair suffers from dryness and brittleness. Chlorine and salt water can wreak havoc on a dye job on hair but the number one culprit for a damaged hair is sun exposure. With as much humidity as our hair endures over summer, many women – us included – are currently walking around with dry and dull hair that’s screaming for a little TLC. The signs that the days of summer fun have taken their toll include frizzy tresses that look fried and lifeless locks that won’t hold any style. To combat the effects of sun-soaked summer, you can reverse the sun’s damaging effects with the right treatments and techniques.

Solution: Tame Those Tresses

Get a good hat! It may seem simple but it is the best line of defense against the sun and a wide-brimmed hat can cover your skin as well. Wash your hair less often and choose a protein-based shampoo because it will increase tensile strength and gives hair added shine and luster. You can also protect your strands by coating it with a barrier such as heat-activated moisturizing treatments or over-the-counter leave-in conditioner and slather it once a week. Avoid hair dryers and hot irons as it fries your hair alive plus reduce using chemical products on your hair because it makes your hair drier. Feeling crafty? Simply dilute two teaspoons of sunblock with SPF 25 down with one cup of water and spray it onto your damp hair before soaking under the sun. When all else fails, sometimes a good pair of scissors is the best treatment for a hair that’s beyond repair.

Products to try:  Kerastase Elixir Ultime (P2,215),  L’Occitane Brume Soleil Sun Mist Protection este Summer Protection (P995)

Problem: Chapped It Away

You have been wanting that Angelina Jolie or Anne Hathaway plumped puckers but you cannot have those luscious lips if you are not taking good care of it. The skin on the lips does not have sweat glands this means that it is without protective layer of sweat and oils making it more prone to dryness. Constant exposure to harsh UV rays and cold winds can cause the lips to be dry and consequently chapped. Lip care and proper diet are necessary to keep your pair of lips in best condition. Now you can have that perfect pout even in this infringing heat of the sun.

Solution: Tips for Lips

It is easy and inexpensive to keep your puckers kissable in no time. First, a lip balm with a beeswax base is better than the one with a petroleum base plus balms with SPF 15 can arm your lips against the scorching heat of the sun. Keep your lips hydrated by drinking eight to ten glasses of water a day because the only way to combat extreme dryness is moisture and that will make your kissers moist from within. Next, munch on some fruits and green vegetables because vitamins and nutrients will surely metamorphosize your lips. If you want your lips soft and smooth, exfoliation is the key! Blend olive oil and sugar together in equal parts and scrub the mixture on your lips in circular motions using a toothbrush. Finish it off by rinsing it with lukewarm water and patting it with a dry towel. Lastly, avoid licking or biting it repeatedly because this leads to inflamed, cracked lips.

Products to try: Burt’s Bees sun protecting lip balm with Passionfruit in SPF 8 (P325), Carmex classic lip pot (P109.75), Kiehl’s Lipbalm #1 (P475), Mac lip conditioner with SPF 15 (P950)

Problem: Sunburned Skin

Summer is around the corner and whether you want a glowing tan or you just want to protect your healthy skin from the sun’s harmful rays, make sure you are armed with the proper prods. Unless you constantly slather SPF or hide under the hat, you are bound to get a tad sunburned if you don’t shield your skin. Sunblock is like a mirrored-shield that reflects the damaging rays while a sunscreen works in a more way like a sponge that soaks them up before ever reaching the layer of your skin. When sun hits our skin, special cells produces melanin. It is the body’s defense against UV radiation, creating a tan. Natural or artificial sunlight contributes to photoaging and leads to cancer.

Solution: Sun-kissed Skin

If you are sporting a lobster-like skin this season, here are some quick tips and DIYs to do before and after sunbathing. Protect yourself by wearing a big hat and shades. Get lubricated with sunblock with at least SPF 15 (layering SPF products does not increase the total number of its effectiveness). Soothe a searing skin by hopping into a chilly bath so your sky-rocketing body temp will not swell anymore, thus giving you a soem relief. Delicious DIY treatments can save your skin and the ingredients can be found in your cupboard too! Add 1 cup of instant oatmeal (anti-inflammatory and relieves dryness), 1 cup whole milk (soothes and moisturizes), 2 tablespoons honey or olive oil (antiseptic), and 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel (pain-fighting) to a lukewarm-to-room temperature bath. Voila! Your skin will feel glorious and glowing without breaking the bank.

Products to try: Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Gel (P345), Beach Hut Max 100+ SPF (P499), Rip Curl Rash Vests UPF 50(P1950), Clarins SOS burn soother with mango and shea butter (P1700), Hawaiian Tropic After Sun Gel (P345)

Nothing can completely undo sun damage but who knows, maybe that SPF could actually save your life!  :)

This month has been quite a struggle for me (and probably for my sister). It has been a physical (ahuh physical because it wasn’t emotional haha) rollercoaster ride and my skin has been stretched for miles as i try to make ends meet. I’ll probably blog about that when i’m braver and when i can finish my own sentences. But after putting myself in hot water, i just made another life-changing decision all for the right reasons. Now i understand why they call this era a trial-and-error in life, relationships and jobs. We have to be responsible for every choice that we make because it has adverse consequences.  We also shouldn’t judge or stereotype people with what just our eyes see. Everyone has a battle and everyone is going through something, so we should always be kinder than we feel. I have also learned how to remain grounded because i am still blessed with things and people that are more than enough for me. Someone is always happy with less than what i have.

That’s it for now! I have another month to catch up with my Instagram blogposts. Haha! Hope you’re a lll enjoying your summer as much as i am :)

I am becoming a beauty nerd already and my makeup & skin-care collection is growing! I love lipsticks as much as art & literature (well i think the latter weighs more at times). Beauty matters (yes i am talking not only about the outside overall) because makeup and clothes can make women feel beautiful, happy, powerful and confident. I believe that there is nothing wrong with that because we are in an era that embraces flaws and celebrates real beauty. Makeup should not change you into something you are not so covering or hiding your entire face is a big no-no (you don’t want to be like a walking zombie and you don’t want to send the wrong message to the world).

On a side note, I love Laura Mercier’s philosophy of supernatural beauty by accentuating the positive and creating a The Flawless Face - the concept that making skin look perfect is the first and foremost important thing a woman can do to achieve a great look. There’s a sense of freshness, a sense of well-done, polished, beautiful, and not caked-on and not heavy masked full-faced. And she says that if she can see the pores and the skin, itself, even better.

Beauty is not generic. Quite often, the thing that makes you memorable is the thing that makes you different.

Read her full inspiring interview from Into The Gloss because she was an artist before she became obsessed with skin and makeup artistry. It’s about going in where you need to and getting to work on the face to enhance the face. Colors and textures were her sole passion but creating products based on the needs of women (and it wasn’t based on any studies holy guacamole!) became her purpose. Though i like Mac and Nars, i love Laura Mercier more because of what she believes in. I am one of her cult-followers and forever will be. Anyway, before i babble too much about makeup, take a sneak peek of my favorite finds and random whatnots. So are you stoked to know what’s inside my bag for this summer season? :) Read on!

 photo bags_zpsf4800e6e.jpg

I have blogged an “Unrealistic what’s in my bag” post two years ago (woah time really flies so fast) and most of the items there were used up or lost. So here is my attempt to update you what i have been throwing inside my rucksack. I have another one which is a leather Rucksack from Topshop and i am also totes inlove with it!

 photo whatsinmybagfinal_zpsd4252a8b.jpg

1. My trusty Accessorize wallet that i have been using for years; 2. Bvlgari Omnia Coral perfume (I also have mini one perfect for travel); 3. Britney Spears perfume; 4. Moleskine blank notebook for sketches and random thoughts (and sometimes i also bring a book with me); 5. Shell case i got from Boracay that houses my earphones or keys; 6. Starfish from California (i don’t even know why it’s in my bag hahaha); 7. Polaroid (i also bring my Canon 550D dslr if not this but i think i shall get a lomocam soon); 8. Cutest and tiniest nutella in the world (i know i need this when i am craving for chocolates); 9. iPad memory card & usb reader; 10. Dreamcatcher necklace (i am fond of dreamcatchers and you know i’m not into accessories so i don’t bring much); 11. Ray-ban Rare Print La Boca sunglasses that was inside the case and i forgot to bring it out (but it looks like this); 12. Three more sunnies because you can never get enough of shades; 13. My blackberry cellphone; 14. Laura Mercier Moisturizer; 15. Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cleanser; 16. my favorite Nars blush; 17. Contact lenses (i haven’t been using my large-framed geeky glasses except when i’m at home); 18. Lipbalm from H&M that was too delish to eat; 19. Bumble & Bumble Surf Spray for my beach ombre hair; 20. Sunblock because there’s sun everywhere haha; 21. Liquid Bronzer; 22. Bath and Body Works nail kit; 23. iPad (i use this as my planner also aside from its sole purpose but my life has been spontaneous since last year so i don’t need too much organization in my daily activities haha); 24. My makeup kit (which i’ll blog separately about the contents in it that i always find to heavy to carry around everyday haha)

I don’t know how it was humanly possible to fit all of these into my rucksack hahaha but these were the i-know-i-need-this-stuff that i brought to our beach trip two weeks ago. Are you also as giddy as i am to know the skin-care routine and makeup favorites of other people? Or prolly what’s in a girl’s bag? :) Share me your thoughts! And you know what? I am super flabbergasted to write more about beauty articles and share it to you girls! <3 After this post, i will try (try being the operative word) to do product reviews and how-tos! Happy Easter and Happy Summer! :)

It’s the start of the year and i made sure that i kicked it off right. I was supposed to start a 365 project but i couldn’t think of one (so that already defeats the starting it right philosophy hahaha). Yes that’s my excuse for my stubbornness. Hahaha. So this year i will try to balance everything again. Nothing too much and nothing too little. I’ll also try to be more contented so i won’t feel not good enough and i will be happy with who i am or with what i have. And this year, i’ll spend more time with people who value me and treat me with respect. Stoked to go back to something again this coming July! :) But for now, here’s my Instagram stash for Janaury 2013. Enjoy! :)
